Advertising for Summer: Vinyl and Mesh Banners

// Angela Higbee // July 15, 2016 //

Summer brings a season full of conventions, concerts, festivals, and shows.

Vendors from all over are taking advantage of this seasonal advertising opportunity. With tourists arriving by the plane load and competition becoming more fierce, drawing attention to your business is more crucial than ever. Advertising for summer is affordable and easy when you use banners to increase brand awareness.
Vinyl and mesh banners are both extremely popular right now for their affordability and durability.

Let’s take a look at the pros and cons of each one to help you decide which type is best for your business.

Mesh Banners

Mesh banners are the best choice for companies that need to print realistic photos onto their banner. Because visuals (such as computer animated design, lettering, and photos) are printed directly on the fabric, these signs can be expected to last for years if they are cared for properly. They do have tiny perforations in the fabric, which will not be visible when the banner is viewed at a distance; even from an up-close perspective, the small holes in the mesh fabric simply act as a backdrop to your company’s design.

The Purpose of Mesh Fabric:

Mesh fabric is identified by the tiny holes in the cloth, which we touched on above. These holes allow wind to pass through the sign, allowing the advertisement to stay straight and unwrinkled in windy weather. Because of their design, mesh banners are light weight and can easily be stored and transported. They are absolutely wonderful for temporary advertising, and using them for a permanent advertisement outside your place of business isn’t out of the question. Businesses should note that mesh banners can only have print on one side of the sign; while this is perfect for mounting your banner to buildings and fences, it can pose a problem for companies who intend to hang the banner between fence posts.

Vinyl Banners:

These banners are printed on a durable vinyl stock, that is available in weights varying from 9oz to 22oz. Heavier vinyl is better for outdoor or longer term signage, because it is more resistant to weather and tearing. Lighter vinyl will work better for temporary and indoor signs, lowering both cost and maintenance. Thanks to the thick fabric material, vinyl banners can support print on both sides, further lowering costs. Vinyl banners generally come with one of three different “finishes,” including matte, scrim, and gloss. Matte is great for signs that will include lots of images in the design, and is considered water resistant. Scrim is the most common type of vinyl, and it is used for its surprising durability. Gloss vinyl is usually chosen when colorful or intricate designs will be printed onto the sign.

A vinyl or mesh banner is an affordable way to jumpstart your company’s advertising campaign this summer. Use the information above to help you decide which type of banner is best for your company’s growth strategy. In the meantime, enjoy the summer!
